Let's Start a Fire
02:11
|
|||
Let's start a fire and throw all our things in,
And watch them burn away, oh, and watch them burn away.
The smell of smoke and fire and anarchy will fill our nostrils, fill our lungs,
And oh, how we'll dance around the flames.
There's got to be a better way to live than how I'm living now,
'Cause I dream about suffocating every single night.
People tell me, "That's just how it goes. You take the hits, you take the blows."
How do they live like that?
Let's burn everything to the ground.
Let's start a fire. Let's start a fire.
Let's take the furniture and break it into bits,
And toss it in the flames, oh, and toss it in the flames.
Let's take the mail we know we'll never read, the bills we can't afford to pay,
And oh, how we'll watch them burn away.

Embers

The spark died. It's just something that I lost.
It's something that I lost so long ago.
I can't recall what it's like to see the light,
Since I haven't seen the light in many years.
The darkness has consumed,
Everything I think or do.
I am not like you,
Unless you feel like this too.
It's now time for that awful sun to rise,
But the light would hurt my eyes so I retreat.
And I find me a place that's cold and dark,
A place that's cold and dark just like my heart.
I am not like you.
I'm rotten through and through,
Disconnected and askew.
No, I am not like you.
(Happy whistles!)
I am not like you.
I'm faded and see-through,
Ethereal and blue.
No, I am not like you.
I'll never, ever be like you.

To You, the Defeated
03:26
|
|||
To you, the defeated, with your still beating hearts.
To the broken, wherever you are.
I've got this guitar. I've got so much to say,
So I'm singing to you in the dark.
This year has been hard and I have to confess,
That it probably won't get better soon.
But if you're going to fight your way out of this darkness,
Please know I'll be fighting it too.
Sometimes there aren't words to describe how you're feeling,
So you open your mouth and you just shout out something like this:
La di da da di da da di da da.
La di da da da da.
La di da da di da da di da da.
La di da da da da.
When the blood has all dried and it's caked in your hair,
And you look up to see all the stars,
There's nothing to do but to clean up your wounds.
For as long as you live you'll have scars.
And you'll look like a pirate or a boxer or warrior.
There's worse things to look like, I guess.
But your heart will keep beating, because that's what it does.
It pumps blood in its home in your chest.
So let's go:
La di da da di da da di da da.
La di da da da da.
La di da da di da da di da da.
La di da da da da.
