lyrics

There was some grit in the machine,
Oh, it's never been that clean.
It's been grinding down these gears for way too long.
So something had to break.
It wasn't only one mistake.
It was accumulated wear that went ignored.

Folks kept getting poorer,
And their friends kept getting poorer,
So they took the matter into their own hands.
These folks all got together,
To make the world a little better,
But the bourgeoisie was standing in their way.

So the guillotines came out and they lopped off those little heads.
These severed heads, they wondered how they got into this mess.
Before the world went dark, before it all would fade away,
They wondered why they had no time to pray.

I guess it's fair sometimes,
People are pardoned for their crimes.
Forgiveness has its place and it has its time.
But if you say "Eat or be eaten,"
And the people catch you cheating,
Forgiveness is all spent, and it's not yours.

Because the guillotines are coming; they'll lop off your little head,
And your severed head will wonder how it got into this mess.
Before the world goes dark, before the final fadeaway,
You'll wonder why you had no time to pray.
(Mumblecore)
No, we never gave you time to run away.
